About the West Boca Community Council

Our Mission

The West Boca Community Council (WBCC) is dedicated to identifying issues of common concern in the West Boca Raton community, soliciting input from residents and neighborhood associations, and working with county and state government to enhance our quality of life. We advocate for improvements in local infrastructure, safety, and services, striving to keep West Boca a desirable place to live, work, and raise a family.

Who We Are

Founded in 1980, the WBCC is an umbrella organization representing more than 200 homeowner and condominium associations in unincorporated West Boca. Without any city government of our own, the Council serves as the voice for West Boca in dealings with Palm Beach County and the State of Florida. Member associations elect our Board of Directors annually, and we remain a non-partisan, volunteer-led group focused on the best interests of our community.

Our History & Impact

For over forty years, the Council has been a powerful force for positive change. Our first president, the late Fran Reich, united West Boca’s early homeowner groups to successfully advocate on major issues. Notably, Fran spearheaded the push to construct a bridge over Florida’s Turnpike extending Palmetto Park Road – a project accomplished “at lightning speed” and later officially named the Fran Reich Bridge in her honor. The WBCC also led a 12-year campaign preventing a county landfill and incinerator from being built in West Boca, resulting instead in the preservation of 1,660 acres of Everglades buffer land now known as the Fran Reich Preserve. Over the years, the Council helped stop proposals for a local airport, a high-speed rail line, and an expressway that would have impacted our area. We follow Fran’s vision of working on “quality of life” issues through research, respectful dialogue, and persistent advocacy.

Today, the WBCC continues this legacy by tackling the challenges of a growing suburban South Florida community. We work closely with our County Commissioner and agencies to address concerns like traffic safety, new development impacts, and public safety resources. For example,
current initiatives include advocating for new traffic signals on busy roads, monitoring large projects like the Uptown Boca shopping center, and ensuring our local fire stations are properly staffed and equipped. By partnering with sister organizations in West Delray and West Boynton, and staying engaged with officials, we make sure West Boca’s needs and ideas are heard at every level.
